With a team Brunch already booked in at Bills we engaged in some whole hearted sophisticated discussions about our pensions and the impending doom arising from end stage capitalism.

Pre-game we were put on a real fireworks show by witnessing the infamous Pat Wall and Nathan Toms umpire the vets, the fireworks being Olli O’Mara showing his displeasure at every umpiring decision ever made.

But there was a game to be played – and lost. Sonning started off by showing the real talent and class they don’t know they have, reminiscent of most X Factor contestants witnessed back in the day (for those that weren’t alive when this was a thing – your opinion is irrelevant).

But alas it was not meant to be – South Berks showed their attacking prowess by winning a short corner – then followed by a deflected ‘attempted’ shot which drilled in to Nathan Toms foot on the line. What ensued was a p-flick which can only be compared to the biggest disappointment since I was born, it was so bad it has sold Martin, kindly doubling up got us, for an absolute hot dog and somehow squeezed through his legs.

The rest of the first half can only be described as South Berks having a midas touch. Everything turned to gold and went in.

The second half mustered some energy encouragement from a Sonning perspective, with all of the play and Jack Evans clawing another back. Despite numerous short corners we were unable to capitalise.

Hard lessons learned, we take this on the chin and will go again next week with renewed determination.
