Dominant Win in Season Opener vs MK2

On a late summer’s day - equinox as well - after a long and intense preseason, the Mens’ 2. XI and Milton Keynes 2. XI were ready to drop the visors and show where they’re standing after the summer break.
Sonning brought in a full squad with a back four of Beasley, Steve-O, AS and Gaz, Ali G surprisingly in goal. Midfield engine and strategists Greeny, Harvey (together 3m tall) and JT as well as a strong forward selection of Pat, Patzi, big Littleboy and the subs Pete & Tobi were ready to rumble at Sonning Lane in the afternoon sun.

Starting strong and putting the pressure right on MK’s back four we were able to generate a few PC’s, but without much success initially.

90% of the first 15min were battled out in MK’s half, until finally a PC variant through 4 stations brought the first goal of the season by a Tobi Challis deflection. Yes, he did not miss the ball or fall over this week…

This was shortly followed by a strong team goal going through 6-8 stations before being pushed over the line by ALB, impressive stuff from the team who drew up this play during a night out at PT.

Halftime was about staying focused and keeping the pressure up. Ali had almost nothing to do until that time.

Quick into the second half we were 3:0 up by Postman Pat stealing the goal at the goal line from Patzi after a supreme pass collection including a nice run around the goalie from Patzi. The latter falsely accused ALB for stealing the goal and got voted DoD for that, thanks Pat…

But then we relaxed a hunch too much, letting a pass from our last man Beaseley “slip” right into the stick of the MK attacker, who was able to convert. 100% on goal conversion for MK then.
But Sonning kept on pushing and was quickly back on track with a monstrous drag flick into the corner by ALB on a PC.
From there we played it down like we’ve never done anything else. Not giving MK much more hope for a win. The dagger came with an exquisite dribbling and anti-skill by Pete Peters on (Young), who will tell his grandchildren about it in years to come.

All in all, great first match of the season, well deserved win, see you all on Tuesday. Congrats to Steve-O for being Mom.
