Sonning 3 – 1 Aylesbury

A brace of tap-ins from Manser and a nice little finish from Whittaker sealed a 3 – 1 home win for Sonning over Aylesbury. Manser was absolutely chuffed with his performance having scored his longest range effort of the season from almost a yard out. In a post-match interview Manser stated “I didn’t know I had it in me to strike the ball so far!”.

Sonning started well, absorbing mild waves (ripples) of Aylesbury attack that were easily disposed of as they over committed leaving gaping holes in their defence which the gentlemen of Sonning exploited without breaking a sweat.

Sonning were in cruise control until an all too familiar nemesis struck at the heart of their defence… Mr L Wise, initially threw a dummy at a hopeful aerial in front of poor T. Allday causing confusion which lead to Aylesbury’s goal from a resulting penalty corner. With 15 minutes left on the clock Wise struck again, whether or not he is part of a match fixing scandal I cannot comment, though the evidence provided does not look favourably upon the chap. For the 3rd time in 2 games Wise gave away a penalty flick as the ball was blocked from crossing the line by his not so nimble trotters. Thankfully team captain and goal keeper Sully, who often demonstrates the qualities of a small cat, was there to save Wises’ blushes.

Sonning Men’s 1st XI are looking onwards and upwards as next up is a top of the table clash against Abingdon. Questions will be asked such as; Will Sully stick with the troublesome Wise at the back? Can Manser keep up his goal scoring streak? Will Huw Thomas remember to bring the training Balls?
