1st vs 3rd puts on a thriller at Sonning Lane as a last minute penalty corner gives Abingdon a point.
The build up for this match had been the talk of the town. The league leaders against one of the top three teams. The crowd starting to build and the excitement grew.
As the excitement grew, the sun came through the clouds and into the eyes of the Sonning defence. Specifically a certain number 18 who won't be named for his own safety.

After the second one the defence regrouped and put in a sweeper to avoid this issue. After this is riled up the Sonning crowd and the energy galvanised the team who pushed and pushed for an equaliser. But the Sonning forwards only knew how to hit at the GK.
Up stepped Sonning 1's player of the season, and centre back who put the ball to the side of the GK and the ball went in. Surprise, surprise a defender showing the forwards how to do it.
Half time came and Sonning grouped, the better team in that first half and a more grouped team than the opponents who were full of individuals. Calm heads were needed, especially inside the D.
These words were ringing in everyone's heads, and Sonning turned up the heat. They dominated the second half and turned the match on its head against a low block structured team who consistently had a half court press.
Two goals scored by Sonning and the crowd had something to celebrate, the players had something to hold onto and top of the league looked in sight.
However Abingdon who didn't do much in the second half had another idea and in the dying moments of the match they got a penalty corner which they put away in the corner.
A point gained for them, two dropped for Sonning. However Sonning would take a lot more away from the match than their opponents.
P.S. in the second half the centre back from the first half who didn't claim a single aerial, claimed all aerials.
