It was sunny but freezing cold over at Henley yesterday but Sonning started really well with Alice thumping in one of her trademark short corners in the first quarter. We looked to be cruising with two solid central partnerships of Jorja, Megan and Chloe at the back and Alice & Mia in the midfield, it only looked a matter of time before we added to our tally with other Alice making a nuisance of herself upfront. However, two goals in quick succession put us on the back foot as we rotated our subs and we ended the half 2-1 down.
The third quarter was where it all came together nicely, Bronwyn and twins Charlotte and Georgia started using their pace and getting the ball upfront nice and quickly. We had a few good periods of pressure around their D with Izzy managing to tuck one away at the left post and Georgia (I think) getting our third in similar fashion.
The final quarter was always going to be a challenge as we tried to rotate every player once again for equal pitch time but the girls concentrated hard and we managed to keep our shape. Our new keeper Sophie made several good saves including a one on one with their attacker in the first half. Katie also promises me that her shot went well over the line (I was too far away to tell) but wasn't given
Henley voted Alice our player of the day
Coaches pick goes to Ellie who got stuck in making some good clearances
Finally - "Hats off" to the young Henley Umpire who had a great game in his first match
