Reading Rollers 5 - 4 Sonning U14 Girls

The first game of the Sonning U14 league season started in hot conditions on the Reading water pitch. Sonning started well in the first third with lots of action in the opposition half and Bo, who stepped up and donned the goalie kit, sweating in goal for 20 minutes without having anything to do at all. We had some great play with Jorja marshaling the defence, Little Freya (age 10) doing really well in the midfield and Big Freya leading the forward line.
The second third saw Reading getting more posession and using their 7 substitutes to good effect with three goals in that session. Alice got a great goal from a short corner with a bouncing shot from the edge of the D. Jorja went in goal for the last third with Meagan and Melissa filling her shoes well in central defence. I think Bo got our second goal, with Reading getting two in return to make it 5-2. Another short corner from Alice and a great team goal with Laura running all the way up the right wing and feeding Katie who smacked it into the goal left us just one behind. Sonning tried hard in the last 5 minutes for a draw and came very close with the ball just going past the right post in the last play of the game.
Great work all round - special mention to our two volunteer keepers (everyone is going to have to try once!) and Jo for helping get the kit on and off
