Having a great time

As I travelled home on the last night before my Christmas break, I was in a reflective mood and thought I'd look back on our season so far.

There have been a few lows. Forfeiting our second game through lack of numbers was an early worry and deeply frustrating - we just want to play and enjoy our hockey - I'm glad to say it proved to be an isolated blip.

The games that didn't go our way and that we could, and should have won. Fortunately we haven't had too many of those!

The lights going out when we weren't quite done and ready to give Oxford thundering 2nd half.

But really there weren't many lows, and more than made up for by the highs.

The positive spirit, the sense of fun and fair play, the quest for a goal that never diminishes, the camaraderie is forming a team that I'm so proud to captain. I've been pleased by the number of opposition captains that have made a point of saying how much they enjoyed playing against us.

The club mates that have helped us, encouraged us, coached us and turned up for us is really appreciated and helped to ensure that we have turned out a team for all bar one of our games. It's also encouraging that they want and offer to come back for more.

The colts that have joined us have made a great impact, scoring goals, chasing down the opposition and making and taking opportunities. Having a few young legs has been a godsend for our more veteran players

It's been brilliant to have a nucleus of regulars playing together week on week. We've improved as we've learnt to play together, but also to apply the coaching that we have received from our more experienced team-mates.

No review of our team could forget all the hard work that Alison D does for us during the week before our games. She has always delivered a cracking team and can't thank her enough for that.

The maiden goals for so many of the team, the draws and the wins (and even some of the losses), the DOTDs (given in fun) and the MOTM (given in pride) were all highlights and great memories.

So from the Mighty7s to all who have played for us, supported us, coached and encouraged us, we thank you and wish you a happy Christmas and hope to see you on the pitch in 2017.
