Simon crashes out!

After last week's controversial game, it was time to pick up the team and get back to basics - playing good hockey and having fun together.

With a few new faces to the team, we soon discovered that this was probably going to be a game of survival. BA pushed forward with some great ball control and our defence was soon under pressure. Warbs, Pastie and Bambi (team we need to get some more nicknames) battled heroically, but BA proved too strong for us and despite some excellent debut keeping from John Marriott, we were soon behind.

But it wasn't all one way. Our passing game was good and some good interplay between Jon and Dean soon saw us on the attack. Jay and Michael, supported by Hugh put their defence under pressure and a couple of opportunities and a short corner or two didn't quite go our way. On the wing, Owen did a beautiful pirouette on the ball surprising the BA midfield.

This period of play put BA on notice and they upped their game. A short corner followed. Eagle-eyed refs judged that Bambi had false started and this was followed by the goalie. With only 3 defenders, the short corner goal was an inevitability. Not long before the end, BA got their third.

It wasn't the same team that we faced in the second half. 2 of the BA players had left - maybe they had another game to get to? We had much more time on the ball and much deeper penetration into the BA half. Unfortunately BA were awarded a penalty shot (he scored and then left) and took the game to 4-0.

Simon had arrived at half-time to give us a much needed sub and it was good to be able to get a breather. Unfortunately he took a ball to the knee after 20 mins and we were back to eleven.

As ever we continued to press forward and had a few more chances, but it wasn't to be our day. I was still pleased with the overall team performance and we continued to battle up until the final whistle - as captain I couldn't ask for me.

MOTM: Warbs (Solid defence all game)
DOTD: Simon (carelessly getting injured - it's harsh in the 7s)

The league split is decided after today and we have ended up 14th (11th if we hadn't forfeited the 3 points last week).

The next game is on the road again to Tring. PB at 12.00. It's our last game against the 15 in the league before the split, so would be good to finish on a win. #COTN #Mighty7s
