Another brilliant team performance by the Mighty7s
Frozen, but dauntless!
Saturday was a long day waiting to hear if our game was on, as all around us the big freeze was decimating the match calendar. Much relief when I heard from the Eastcote Eagles captain that the game was on and I mustered the team together for our trip to sunny Ruislip.
This was a could-win, should-win, must-win game for us and soon after the PB, I had the feeling that this was going to be our day. Despite the cold, the team were motivated and the early passing play and interaction between the whole of the team was brilliant to watch from the back. It wasn't all one way, and although Eastcote had some good players, they were individuals who seemed reluctant to pass and our midfield and defence easily blunted their attacks and some deft passing soon put us into attack. Much of the first half was played in their half and it was only a matter of time before Sam slotted one into the lefthand side of the goal. We continued to dominate for the rest of the half, but failed to convert a number of chances.
In the second half, Eastcote came out all guns blazing. It was a much more determined opposition and they pressed us much harder. Although playing much deeper in our half, the defence held strong and having pushed further forward, Eastcote were much more vulnerable to our counter-attacks. We all noted how well our colts played today. Michael, Hugh and Jacob all made great runs, some great opportunities and caused real problems for the Eastcote defence. Our 2nd goal from Harvey sealed the victory and Eastcote frustration seemed to rise.
A 2-0 victory on the pitch was overturned by the league, who judged that we had fielded ineligible players.
This was still a great achievement for the Mighty7s and shows how much the team and the individuals within the team have come on during the season. It has been brilliant to turn out a core of 7s players each week and the colts have been exceptional.

Next week, we face British Airways, 12.00 PB at home. Our penultimate game before the league splits, so let's have a good turnout.
