Another point for the Mighty7s

Hugh knew?

As I reflect back on the game against Abingdon today, it was a nice game, not a great game, just a nice game. Both sides played with respect for each other and helped the refs with their more dodgy decisions! As ever, I came away pleased with the team performance, the commitment and the overall way we played. I was relieved that we got the goal back for the draw, but actually disappointed that we didn't get the win. It was definitely a winable game that we let get away. But we all enjoyed the game and there were moments of great play.

Up front Hugh, Michael and Jay all got MOTM nominations, making some great runs into space. The defence was solid, Rhys, Rich, Steve, Andy S and especially Warbs, and soaked up the pressure and it felt that we had control of the match. The midfield had bags of space to run at the opposition, making some great passes and keenly recycling the ball to allow us to attack again. Ben made some great runs with the ball, ably supported by Simon, Owen, Jacob and Neil.

We defended well against a couple of short corners, but once again our short corner attack was not a beautiful thing to watch - yielding 2 DOTD nominations - and congratulations to Andy (I'm a striker) F on winning that accolade!

It was 0-0 at half time and once again the second half was our better session. We dominated the play, had most of the ball and, apart from one moment of in-attention leading to a too easy goal for Abingdon, it felt that we were mostly in their half and the D was peppered by our shots.

Finally our barrage paid off. A strong ball into the D was followed by a goal-line squabble for the ball, resulting in another maiden goal for one of our colts - well played and a well deserved MOTM to Hugh.

The game ended 1-1. Probably a fair score as we didn't convert our chances. Another point for the Mighty7s as we consolidate our 10th (out of 16) position in the league.

MOTM: Hugh (Maiden Goal)
DOTD: Andy F (where do you take the short from?)

Next week we face 7th in the league Oxford 9s at home (PB 15:00). A tough game, but we have beaten them in previous seasons. Let's do it again! #COTN #Mighty7s
