3 points for the Mighty 7s

The Harrow 2s arrived with their coach (not on a coach) - something unseen in MBBO Div 9 - so we knew we were in for a tough game. We didn't start well with only 10 players on at the push back - I obviously can't count. They quickly attacked and soon were a goal up. Get a grip 7s. Rhys was however having a strong game and making some great saves.

Olly O came on and made an instant impact - giving away a short corner! This would have been an immediate DOTD except he had not even warned that when Dave has the ball in our D, you need to get well out of the way! Harrow played a firm press on our usual defence of Steve O, Andy and Dave, making it difficult to get out of the 16. But with Olly T giving us some time and stability in the middle, the midfield and wings had more time on the ball. Russ had some good runs on the left and Dean and Michael connected well on the right. After stringing a few good passes together, Simon B threaded a great ball through to Chris for the equaliser. Spirits rose.

There was much debate after the game about a short corner save at our end. The high shot from Harrow was brilliantly deflected away from the goal. However we could not agree who knew more about it - the ball, the stick, but the general concensus was that it definitely wasn't Steve O!

Harrow got a second late in the half, but we went in equal at 2-2 after a short corner flick from Steve R. A half time pep talk and tactical masterclass gave us a positive feeling for the second half. We could win this!

And I must say, we did play in a more assured manner in the second half. We seemed to have more time, more space, their attack felt more controllable, it felt like we this was a game for the taking. Jay and Michael made some great runs into space, we won a number of shorts, Hugh and Simon worked hard in midfield and we were finally rewarded with another goal following a short by Steve R.

Steve R was the obvious match winner for us, and having raised him onto that pedestal, his team mates had to the British thing and knock him off. An overwhelming DOTD nomination followed. A pass up the middle to Steve with only the goalie to beat until with skill and flair, he one touched to his foot!

So a 3-2 victory for the Mighty7s - our first win of the season. Another great team effort from the 7s and takes us several places off the bottom of the league. Onwards and upwards.

MOTM: Steve O's Stick
DOTD: Steve R's Foot

Next Saturday, we have the long trek to Banbury for a 12.00 PB. It has historically been a difficult fixture for us to get a team out for, but please let the Captains know if you might be available and cajole any family and friends who would like to have a go! Everyone is welcome.
