"Rhys - the best game I've seen him play"

Before the game, we were warned that Thame 3s were a team of fit youngsters, so the Mighty 7s approached the game with some trepidation. Fortunately we now have some fit youngsters of our own!

The game started nervously on both sides with the 7s back four of Dave Latimer, Chris Manning, Andy Staig and Steve Olds put under some early pressure. We were able to resist and with Rhys Page making some great saves behind us, we started to gain confidence.

Some quick counter attacks from our midfield quartet of Russ Sivyer, Hugh Pullin, John Newman and Simon Combstock were extremely effective, whilst Michael Staig and Jay Churchill found space up front. Jacob Cowper started as sub, but was soon on and making some great runs from midfield. It was end to end stuff and it could have gone either way with some short corners for both sides. Thame got a late goal in the first half, but we were pleased with our performance and it was all to play for in the second half.

The second half saw much of the same, however Thame piled on the pressure on our defence and brought out probably the best performance I have ever seen from Rhys - courageous and committed, it felt that nothing much was going to get past him today.

The notable incident of the second half, and a clear DOTD nomination, was Dave's attempted clearance out of the D - a great line drive up the middle - that nearly took Chris's leg off at the knee! Pretty impressed that Chris was then still able to defend the resulting short corner (a harsh decision umpire surely?) and an obvious attempt at MOTM nomination!

Some more great runs up the right from Jon, and the left from Russ, and our youngsters, Michael, Jay, Hugh and Jacob showed some great skills and put Thame under some real pressure. The rest of the team kept up the work rate and the game remained evenly matched.

A late goal from Thame saw the final score a 2-0 loss, disappointing, but there were loads of positives to take from the game. Once again we all had great fun and Thame commented on the good spirit in which the game had been played.
