No early Christmas present for the Mighty6s
A tough game well played
Not the score we had hoped for, but the team finished the year in good spirits.
After a nail-biting wait for the result of the pitch inspection, we approached the game with a positive outlook. A familiar M6s team turned out and we started with our formation with an experienced back three of Date, Warbs and Kevin, Jay and Coops upfront, now supported by Paul (out of his usual defensive position, with Eddie, Andy, Anton, Owen and Dean in the middle. The ever-reliable Rhys in goal.
Bicester had travelled with a mixture of experience and youthful talent and soon put us under pressure. They displayed good stick skills and put together some great sequences of passes. It wasn't too long before we conceded a goal. But as the game progressed we settled down and started to take the game to them. Eddie's aerial was one of the highlights - you don't seem that in the 6s very often. We continued to press forward and were rewarded with a short. We sent the big guns from the back forward and soon were back to 1 -1 with an excellent strike from Dave.
Given the pressure on defense, we changed our formation in the 2nd half, moving to a 442. This gave us a bit more defensive structure and for the first 20 mind we held out own. But youth and skill finally overcame our experience and Bicester took 2 more goals to take it to 3-1. But are heads didn't drop and we continued to battle on, I lost count of the number of shorts that we successfully defended.
As I said to the team at the end of the game, the team impressed me with the level of effort and determination that was shown and the never say die spirit makes the Mighty6s a credit to the club and I'm proud to be their captain.
A few yuletide thank yous on behalf of the team. Thank you to Alison for getting a team out for us every week. Thank you to the regular supporters who turn out very week. Thank you to the support that we receive from the rest of the club, the refs, the coaches, Oldie for his great teas and everyone who encourages us. My thanks to my team mates who make my Saturdays such fun and are a pleasure to be with.
The Mighty6s wish everyone in the club a Merry Christmas and wish you all many points in the New Year.
