Score doesn't reflect a great team effort

It is easy to walk of the pitch on the wrong side of a 7-1 scoreline and feel dejected, frustrated, angry and all round pissed off. But I'm pleased to report that we didn't feel like that yesterday, and actually I don't think it is in the character of the team to do so.

We had had a tough game. BA are a skillful and strong team and had a particularly adept and agile play maker who wouldn't have been out of place many leagues above ours and made all the difference to their side. All credit to our defensive players who valiantly held the line for much of the match.

After the game, as we packed up, and later, as we ate a particularly nice curry at the Indian Gymkhana Club, we reflected on some great and magical moments during the game and the overall improving standard of the team.

Paul Cutler made a particularly impressive charge from way back in defense, deep into the other half. A strong challenging run with some great skill. Later having once again made a foray into the opposition half, he vigorously made his way back to the defence at a pace that would have impressed Usain! (it was noted that he quickly sub'd straight after - but well done).

Having been under the cosh for much of the game, we rejoiced when our hard work paid off and one of our counter-attacks stormed towards the BA D and after a goal line tussle (and after I thought a few weeks ago I'd seen a once in a lifetime event), Owen scored a well deserved goal. Spirits were lifted and maybe we could get another.

But the final moment of magic that we all agreed called out for the MOTM moment fell to the defining 1 on 1 event. Rhys in goal facing a BA flick shot. Rhys standing slightly to the left, daring a shot to the right. The whistle blows, BA step up, he shoots, Rhys saves - what a performance - he was ecstatic and we were so pleased for him. What a great performance.

As captain, I am so proud of my team. There is great camaraderie and support for each other. We had Ash watching the game and he commented on how enjoyable it had been to watch the match - praise indeed.

No league match next week, but we hope to have arranged a friendly against Henley 5s (who are also without a game).
