Colts are a credit to the club as Mighty6s travel to MK

It is always a struggle to get a side out during half-term week, and especially so when you have to make a 1.5 hour journey to get there. On Wednesday the fixture looked in doubt and we only had a 7 man line-up. But 5 colts came to our rescue and Tyler, Zach, Nathan, Anton and Luke stepped up and we even then had subs. I was truly excited by the prospects for the match.

Without a regular keeper, Owen valiantly offered to play as keeper and we cobbled together a kitchen, although 2 left foot kickers and undersized padding proved a challenge. We did miss a photo opportunity of him trying to stuff training cones down his shorts as a makeshift box!

The whistle blew with us only having 10 on pitch - the Churchill clan having been delayed - but we were soon at full complement. Milton Keynes soon pushed forward and scored an early goal, as we took a while to settle into our formation. This was followed soon after by a second and I feared that this was going to be along and hard match.

But we then seemed to find our way. The back three of Craig, Warbs and Paul started to take control at the back and the costs in the midfield started to get their confidence and made some great moves forward. There was space to pass and the skill levels were good. From the break we started to press MK back and they were more harrassed and their weaknesses exposed. We were rewarded with a couple of short corners, but unfortunately didn't manage to convert into goals.

Half time called for some emergency repairs to Owen, as we taped him into his kit, but the team mood was buoyant and we felt that there were some goals waiting to be had.

MK through some more experienced players into the mix in the second half (displaying some skills not usually seen in Div 9!), obviously keen to push home their advantage. But we were largely solid and withheld most of the pressure. Some more MK goals were inevitable and they took 2 more goals in the 2nd half. It was not all one-sided though and we made some great attacking plays.

Both Tylers, Simon and Like in midfield, Jay upfront with either Anton, Zach or Nathan all made some great attacking moves, showing both individual skills, movement off the ball and some great passing play.

I was hugely impressed with the effort and good spirit of the team and pleased that throughout there were smiles and fun being had by all. Thank you to all the team for making the long journey, but also showing the attitude and commitment that makes us the Mighty6s.

DOTD: Warbs (Stroping at poor defense)
MOTM: The colts collectively

Next week we have a home game against Witney, PB at 13.30. Unfortunately I can't play, but am sure we will put up a strong performance.
