The second friendly for the 6’s, this time against Aylesbury. With only 10 of the opposition team turning up, this meant we were going to have lend a player to them, with Dave Ransome kindly offering to play first. We then had the dilemma of who to put in goal but luckily, captain Ashley Churchill nominated himself and had a quick whiff of the smock before embracing his new armour.
This was also a game to set a new record for the club, with four members of the same family in one team: Ashley, Wesley, Tyler and Jaydan CHURCHILL.
The first half started with the Sonning 6s dominating most of the play. Sonning had many chances on goal, which kept the keeper on his toes. With Matt Price, Jaydan Churchill, Dave Ransome, Matt Denham and Chris Stone up front. Tyler Churchill, Mike Petch and Wes Churchill, in the middle and Steve Olds, Geraint Thomas, Andrew Denham and Anthony Oke in defence.
We played well the entire game and took an early lead with a great tap in from Matt Denham.
The second half was still in our favour with goals from Dave Ransome and Matt Price. The opposition’s new player, Matt Denham, did Sonning proud by playing a great game for Aylesbury. We still had a lot of play in their half and probed the D, but their defence held.
Overall, I think the score reflected the positives that we took from the game and we can be hopeful for a good run in the league this year. As a first outing for me playing the 6s, I had a great time, was grateful for the support and advice I received from the team and I can’t wait for the next match.
MOM: Ashley Churchill - For his exquisite performance in goal.
DOD: Matthew Denham - For playing better for the opposition than for Sonning.
