5s get the bitter taste of defeat
Taste of their own medicine
Sonning 5s began the day top of the league, brimming with confidence and set for what was destined to be a very tough game against Bracknell Terriers who had a spring in their step and looked determined to exact revenge for their 7-1 loss to the 5s earlier in the season.
The game started well for Sonning who were moving the ball around the pitch impressively and had the lions share of possession for the first 15 minutes but not managing to find the goal despite repeated well worked attempts.
A little under 20 minutes into the game Bracknell had a strong counter attack very much against the run of play which they promptly capitalised on leaving them 1-0 up which was shortly followed by a second for the Terriers leaving Sonning 2-0 down despite a lot of hard work.
Grant managed to bring Sonning back into the game with a great goal shortly before the end of the first half.
The second half was not a pretty sight for the Sonning spectator as the 5s felt themselves up against it and were struggling to find other blue shirts with their passing. With Sonning getting more and more frustrated Bracknell began to relax and looked much more confident and in control managing to put another 2 goals past Rhys as the game progressed.
With around 10 minutes left in the match Pipe managed to find the back of the net from his reverse once again (looks like he's forgotten how to use the stick the right way round since Christmas!) bringing Sonning back in touching distance of the game. The final portion of the game was high energy and determination from both sides with Sonning sensing blood in the water but being unable to capitalise leaving the 5s with just their 2nd defeat of the season.
MoM Neil Pipe.
DoD Paul Cutler for the levitating stick.
