Unlucky defeat for the 5s

On 18th of October the Sonning 5s played there second game of the season still looking for their first points after a disappointing loss last weekend the team were up to their new challenge against Banbury Piranhas.
The game started off well as captain Max Phippard dribbled it passed the midfield and laid it of too Matthew Denham when he made an amazing pass to Elliott wise were he placed the ball to the keepers right what managed to go passed him and up in the back of the net 1-0 sonning. Sonning were in great control of the match and held the ball well and had some great opportunities by Ed Goodall and Grant Strudley. A few minutes later Matthew Denham had a lovely run down the wing were he passed it of too Max Phippard who had shot on goal were it was saved but the ball laid of too Elliott wise were he to a shot on goal what a Banbury played pushed the ball out of the air with his hand destined for goal. Were no foul was given in the mist of this Banbury ran the ball up the pitch and scored the Sonning players were not happy with the decision by the umpire. Then half time came up were the teams were tied.

Start of the second half both teams was looking for the three points the intensity raised and so was the aggression of the players. There was an in incident in the second half what caught the umpires eye. One of the Banbury’s players was calling for the ball when Sonning player had it. Ed Goodall did not like this and had a word with the players so to stop the commotion from rising the umpire had a word with with the players and told them to calm down. There was lot of attempts from each team but the chance that mattered came from Banbury play in the last minute were the went through the Sonning defence and scored in the dying minutes of the game.

As the game ended in the Sonning loss it should have brought our levels down and weaken us but all it did was make even more driven to win the next game and to help improve on our mistakes as a team.
