Sat 9 Jan 12:00 - Friendly Full time

5s work off Christmas Dinner

5s keep on the winning knack

The 5s got back together after their Christmas break for a friendly against Amersham and Chalfont who are mid table in the East section of the same league on Saturday. Conditions were wet, windy and slippery underfoot from the off. The opposition started the game well despite not managing to field a goalkeeper for the first half but Sonning burst out the traps with great passion and enthusiasm from the push back.

Neil managed to open the scoring after a few minutes with a simple reverse stick shot from the top off the D which rolled steadily straight through the kicking back and between the posts.

Sonning continued to dominate the early exchanges using the width well and pressing high when not in possession with Richard and Matthew controlling the centre of the pitch well. Around a quarter of the way through the match Neil managed to finish a second chance with another reverse sweep from near the top of the D which this time went through Grant and into the back of the net.

A&C finally began to wake up as they were now 2-nil down and responded well managing to hit the target on their 3rd attempt after two strong saves from Rhys. Elliot (senior) managed to break trough the A&C midfield on a very quick counterattack and carry the ball solo all the way into the opposition D for a confident finishing leaving Sonning 3-1 ahead at half time.

A&C dominated most of the second half and managed to prevent the Sonning front two receiving much of the ball let alone putting their new GK under any pressure. At the 3/4 stage of the game play broke down deep in Sonning's half with Sonning in possession leading to another A&C goal which was the last of the game.

Final score Sonning 3 A&C 2
MoM Neil Pipe
DoD Craig Strudley - despite being just his 1st game back for Sonning this year Craig worn the DoD crown for his graceful aerobatics early in the first half.
