Well, only 3 actually, but that's a fest for us
At last, we got some players down from the 2s, it was only Alex but at least that's a start. Apparently, there are more returning from injury higher up the club so we may get a couple more in the coming weeks.
Despite the fact I had asked for us to apply pressure from the start, it was South Berks doing the pressing in the first few minutes until we got into our stride. However, once we got started, we found a nice rhythm to our game with some good attacks going up the field through Alex & Joe on the flanks and, STOP PRESS, Elliot even managed to get to the bye line for the first time all season. We looked solid in defence with Billy and especially Dan clearing a lot of the Berks attacks. That said, with their fast forwards, we were only one slip from disaster and my heart was in my mouth when Jacob looked like he was going to miss an aerial but he coped admirably in the end. Again we had lots of shorts that we couldn't convert and looked like we might pay the price with some Berks chances towards the end of the half but we went in all square.
After last week, I expressly asked for a big start to the second half but, after giving the ball away cheaply twice in succession and then hitting myself in the mouth with my stick, I had to sub myself off, only to see them break through and lift a goal off Pondy's helmet to go one up. We were still well in the game and levelled things five minutes later with good work from Elliot and Timmy finding Toon with an empty net to aim for. Half way through the second half, Billy decided to get his foot on a goal bound short corner, leaving Pondy clawing at thin air with the resulting flick. However, we weren't to be denied this week with Joe finding the bottom corner after a breakaway. The eventual winner was no classic with Timmy and Toon tackling each other on the top of the D, the ball squirting out towards the goalie who seemed to just step over it for Joe to find his second goal with the second, or possibly the third attempt.
MOTM Dan Cooper Crispin - solid
DOTD Toon, falling over ....and getting the time wrong, again, but that was Ali's fault
