ewbury v Sonning 3's
Sonning 3's suffer 1st loss of the season.
Newbury and Thatchum 2 - Sonning 3
It was a crucial day for Sonning 3's with an opportunity to secure themselves at the top of the table knowing that either Tring or Sonning 2's would lose points in their game.
The day started with bleak rain delaying the game prior to the Newbury v Sonning 3's main event. So prepartations were made with tea and mince pies for a pre warm up warm up. Unfortunately this wasn't enough for poor Olly O'Marra who pulled his hamstring in the actual warm up, ruling himself out of the game.
The game pushed back with early pressure from Newbury who were keen to run at Sonning through the middle when in possession and press Sonning at the turnovers. Sonning had some isolated chances and a couple of short corners but nothing came of them. Some wayward passes did Sonning no favours which eventually led to Newbury's first goal, gifted to Newbury in the D and slotted in the far corner. 5 minutes later, loss of possession in the middle of the park had Newbury's young midfield running with spare numbers at the Sonning's outnumbered defence and another goal slotted in from the Newbury right.
Sonning settled in the 2nd half and were able to spread the ball, but again, could only find isolated attacks at the Newbury defence. Singleton got a grip on the middle of the park and linked play to the attack earning him Man Of the Match. Sonning were determined not to conceed another goal seeing Lappin with almight fall in the wet weather defending a 3 man Newbury attack, but it was Hill who earned Dick Of the Day with a horrendous challenge from behind on a Newbury midfielder. Some sweet talking to the umpire and Hill miraculously escaped with only a green card. Ultimately Sonning could not force a way back into the game and the score finished 2-0 to Sonning.
