Sonning Men's 1s took on Tring away in the first game between the sides since Pencil-gate.
Captain Jonathan Sharp was able to field an unchanged XI from the side who absolutely spanked league high flyers Banbury last time out.
The game began with Sonning successfully enforcing their high press on Tring, who had little in the way of answers. Sonning repeatedly forced turnover in good positions and had a flurry of good opportunities wasted (cheers Jimmy) in the early exchanges.
20 minutes into a fairly one sided encounter Sonning broke the deadlock. After a quick restart from POS-elect Tom Sampson and through ball left Jimmy Manser who calmly finished between the keepers legs. 1-0.
Sonning's momentum was cut short after Matt Poulton was sent to the sin bin for a foul mouthed tirade on the umpire in what clearly should have been a red card offence.
Sin bin served and back to 11 players Sonning pushed on again dominating both possession and territory. This time Manser turned provider as he picked out Captain Jon Sharp at the back post who made no mistake. 2-0. Half time.
The second half began with Sonning struggling to maintain their stranglehold on the game and Tring were able enjoy some moments of threatening possession culminating in winning 2 short corners in quick succession. Both conceded by Tamps.
The moment of the game however came mid way through the second half as Tring's golden boy aka the Mac-daddy, broke through the Sonning press (cheers Callum) and was baring down on the hapless Alistair Allen in goal. Sampson however won the foot race, got his infamous flat stick to the ball first and obligingly allowed the Tring player to fly serenely up and over his shoulder into a heap in the floor. Chin up pencils!
With the game winding down, Ian Finlayson added a third goal after Ian Gallagher's strike was saved cutely by the Tring keeper with the rebound falling to Finlayson at the top of the D. A powerful strike into the top corner was Sonnings icing on the cake. 3-0. Full time.
Sonning now look forward to a home tie against free scoring Stains in the last game before the winter break.
