Sonning started with optimism after last week's narrow defeat away at Oxford 1st XI, imposing some early pressure, but unable to find a breakthrough.
They found themselves 0-1 down after around 20 minutes when Matt Sloper was struck in the chest on the Sonning goal-line from a strike after a series of short corners. Ali Allan was unable to save the resulting penalty flick, which was converted professionally by Wallingford.
Sonning were then without the ball for long periods as Wallingford's energetic and skilful side sought to build upon their early goal, but despite having only small amounts of possession, it was Sonning who created, and were unable to convert multiple chances in the second half, while Allan found himself called to action on only a couple of occasions in the Sonning goal.
Never the less, Wallingford hung on for their victory which leaves Sonning disappointingly near the bottom of their division, although by no means cast adrift in what is already shaping up to be a highly unpredictable season
