Addiscombe 1XI 3 - 5 Sonning 1XI

Sonning travelled away to Croydon for their first cup match this season. The team rocked up at the private Royal Russell School, giving a classy surrounding to our match. The match got off to a good start with the new press strategy, this resulted in the rival team chucking a million aerials to relieve the pressure. The first goal of the match went to Sonning, thanks to Jimmy deflecting the ball past the keeper and into the goal. Shortly after, Jimmy scored once again, making it 2-0 to Sonning. Colm, following a couple of horrendous stick tackles in a row saw him get a green card and had to spend two minutes on the naughty step.

Addiscombe came back stronger after half time and got two goals equalling the score to 2-2.

Frustration lead to Colm getting another green card for another horrendous tackle. After a while of no goals despite Sonning’s relentless attacking, Sharpy finally managed to break through and scored to make the score 3-2. They were still determined to better the result, but whilst transferring it round the back, Callum did a frankly terrible pass which lead to Fin stacking it with no one around him. It sealed Callum the title of “Dick of the day”. Not long after, Sharpie scored once again, bringing the score to 4-2 to Sonning. With seven minutes left of the game Addiscombe managed to retaliate and their skilful midfielder got them their third and final goal of the game.
Shortly before the final whistle Jumbo got the ball out wide and played it up the line to Jimmy who crossed it across the D for Alex to tap it through the keeper’s legs. Sonning notching up their 5th goal making the final score 5-3 to Sonning.

This victory puts Sonning through to the next round of the cup against Witney 1st team away on the 13th of November.
