SL4's v Marlow 4's

SL4's v the top of the league, Marlow 4's.

We knew this was going to be a tough game, they are quick, well drilled and have a midfield to die for. A tough game it was, but one which didn't go down without a fight.

Marlow were straight on us as soon as the first whistle blew (not that we could hear the whistle through the gale). They were pressurising us, on the attack, pressing high and keeping SL4's pressed in their own half. They smoothly passed the ball around the team, using space to attack, taking shot after shot at the goal and Sonning players.

Ruth (SL4' GK) was well warmed up, flying around the D, making her physical presence known to Marlow. They were frustrated and annoyed at her ability to stop them in their tracks, by diving around like super woman. Ruth was most definitely our saviour this week, winning woman of the match for her hard work and motivational speeches during what felt like ten dozen shorts by the end of the game.

Marlow won a huge amount of shorts, taking full advantage of Sonning feet! But....not one short was converted in to a goal. We defender brilliantly and kept that ball out.

Marlow did however score three goals, driving down the middle, causing Sonning to loose formation, which they took full advantage of.

Not all bad for Sonning though, we defended for the majority of the game, but when on a break we did look dangerous. Beatrice carried the ball brilliantly down the wing, crossing in, creating real chances for the team.

Ellie Aries received her first card of the season for not taking 5 and Lynn Carpenter had more kicks than hits on the ball.

Louise (captain) - Muff of the match for forgetting to tell the team what positions they were going to play. Lucky dip next week girls :-)
