A battle till the end.......

With the sun shining and great pre match warm up, the Ladies 4's were ready for what we knew would be a competitive home against the Oxford fireflies.

The first half started slow, 4's ladies were very quiet whilst they tried to settle in to their new positions this week and bat off the immediate pressure that Oxford placed us under. Half way through the first half we gained our confidence and looked awesome on the attack. Oxford looked uncomfortable with how quick and dangerous we were when we took control of the game. On a counter attack Oxford managed to score a cracking goal just before the half time whistle. 1-0 to Oxford.

During a quick half time break, the team identified what they needed to do to pull this game back.

Second half and we were ready for the Sonning come back. The heavens opened and down came the rain, it was pouring. Sticks were wet and slippery and the ball was flying across the pitch. Sonning ladies took full advantage of this and worked beautifully as a team to pass the ball around the pitch. We took full advantage on the attack and placed Oxford under a lot of pressure. Their response, to hit the ball off the side line. With a number of consecutive long corners, we took the opportunity and scored a scruffy but yet well deserved goal. Well done Becky Meayler for scoring.

Oxford were not impressed, so came straight back at Sonning and won a short corner.......not just once but 3 in a row. The defence stood strong and kept that ball out, Tori saved a cracking goal that was aimed straight at her head.

The whistle blew and a final score of 1-1. A well deserved win, although we did make it hard work for ourselves!

Sarah Atkins, woman of the match who played a beautiful game as bottom of the diamond. Well done.

Nina Sharp who played on the wing this match and had a great game. She was also supported by Donna Knight who played defensive wing. The two of them played beautifully together, using the entire wing to carry the ball, using Sarah and Lisa M in the midfield to attack the opposition and create chances.

Tori for saving a cracking head shot and also for catching the ball in her leg pad....not sure how you achieved that but a brilliant save.

Overall a very competitive game, where everyone worked hard, not giving up and pulling a draw. Well done, I cant wait for our next game.
