An historic day awaits, as two teams have the opportunity to guarantee promotion, with three other teams also in action

As we draw close to the end of the season, things are hotting up at Sonning HC, with promotion/relegation still a possibility for 7 of the club's teams.

We start off on a positive note this week, where the Ladies' 2s have a chance to guarantee their promotion to Trysports Three Counties Prem 1 for next season, as they entertain Oxford 3s. It promises to be a belter of a match, as Oxford have won their last 5 games on the bounce, and have only lost once (against title rivals Oxford Hawks) since suffering a 3-1 defeat in the reverse of this fixture pre-Christmas. The 2s themselves are on a 9 match unbeaten run, and will be hoping to complete their own decema, and gain that well-deserved promotion.

Up next, the Men's 4s wil be looking to carry on the momentum gained last week, where they picked up their first win of the season. Unfortunately, Reading were also victorious, so the 4s are still rooted to the bottom of the league. They will be facing a tough task this week, as Oxford Hawks 3s - who currently occupy 2nd place - are making the trip to the Doom Bar Arena. A 4-0 defeat was suffered at Oxford, so the 4s will be hoping to improve on that.

The Ladies 1s are next to take to the hallowed turf, as they welcome PHC Chiswick 1s, who currently lie in third place, with a slim chance of achieving promotion. Having put in a strong performance, but suffered a narrow loss last week, the 'Ning will be hoping for revenge from the 3-0 loss eariler in the season. Survival in the league is all but guaranteed already, but a win would make it even more secure.

The penultimate match of the day sees the Men's 6s take on Staines 5s, knowing that a win would see them leapfrog the visitors in the league - which is currently so tight, that anyone from 4th down could still mathematically be relegated! Revenge is also on the cards in this match, after Staines managed to bag a 5-1 win earlier in the season.

Finishing the day in a similar vein to how it started, the Men's 2s, as with their female counterparts, have the opportunity to seal their place in the league above - MBBO Div 1 - as they take on their main rivals for the second promotion slot, Newbury and Thatcham 2s. N&T edged a tight game 2-0 in the reverse, but the 2s have gone on a 9 game unbeaten run since the turn of the year, so will be high on confidence that they can get the win that will see them move up a league.

Good luck to everyone in your games, and try and get down to support our teams playing at home (particularly both 2nd XIs) if you can!
