SONNING 0 - 0 ASHFORD
13th October 2007
A rare scoreline and rather surprising given the amount of possession we had. The performance was pleasing though, with good movement off the ball and some lovely inter-play. We created chances throughout the game but Ashford knew how to pack out their D and we just could not apply the finishing touch or find a way through.
Defensively, we were rock solid yet again - particularly due to the formidable pairing of Jeremy Matheson & Richard Boyden in the centre - but everyone played their part in winning the ball back and Andrew Bowyer had very little to do in goal for the second game running.
Another positive sign is the way the Colts are fitting in - Antony Matheson and Jordan Manning both played the whole game and did not stop running. It's all very encouraging for the season.
So, 2 clean sheets and 4 points out of 6 is a pretty good start chaps - well done!
Man of the Match: Jeremy Matheson (keeping it in the family after his son Antony won it the previous week).
Special thanks to Jon Warbey for umpiring the 1st half when he should have been playing and to Eddie Butler & Ollie O'Mara for hot footing it from the 3rd's match at Harrow to support us - Ollie taking on umpiring duties in the 2nd half.
