SONNING 5 - 0 AMERSHAM & CHALFONT
10th November 2007

Well we duly arrived, ready for another floodlit game, although some were less ready than others - Jon '1 shinpad' Warbey and Liam 'damn no socks' Booles both needing to raid the captain's spare kit bag.

It didn't seem to matter though as we were informed that Amersham had too few 5th team players, so we were given the game. Another 3 points then, and that reinforced our position at the top of the division. They had, however, managed to draft in 6 players from their 3rd team (which plays 6 divisions above us) so we were on for a match afterall!

The quality of many of their players was evident, but we managed to match them for much of the game and were unlucky to go one down. Could we respond? Absolutely, and I think some of our lads had been watching Eddie's short corner practice at training, because our goal came from a super routine that looked well rehearsed - although it was nothing of the kind - a cracking shot through the defence by Antony Matheson was well deserved.

We went into the break 2-1 down, but gave them a hard 2nd half with both sides creating chances to score but failing to do so.

So we got a run out afterall and the performance was hugely encouraging. It would be nice to play a league match soon though!

Man of the Match: Antony Matheson
Thanks to: Pete Drain, Liam Booles, Jon Warbey & Dave Latimer for sharing umpiring duties and playing as if our league position rested on the result.
