SONNING 0-2 ASHFORD
20th October 2007

Location : Heathrow runway number 2

14:30

Sonning travelled east in the glorious sunshine to take on the early league leaders Ashford 5's looking for their very first victory of the season. Captain Tim "I gurn when I score" Hill gave a rousing team talk and we were off...

Ashford 5's started strongly with powerful free hits frequently pinning Sonning into the wrong end of the pitch. As the new faces settled into the game, Sonning began to look more comfortable; the opposition free hits become ineffective and our attacks became more purposeful. Unfortunately the first half ended with Sonning 2-0 down thanks to a well placed short corner and another goal.

A masterful change of tactics saw the second half begin with Simon "I can't afford to pay match fees" Betson moving up to defensive midfield and a reorganisation of the defence. Instantly the balance of the game changed and Sonning were looking comfortable as we began to find the the width on the pitch and the attacks poured forwards, with the wing backs suddenly free to push up and assist the attacks. Sadly the plague of the season struck once more with the final ball into the D and Sonning's shooting proving the weak link and the back of the net was elusive throughout.

Final score: Sonning lost 2-0. Theres a lot to work on, but Sonning can take positives from our tenacity and ability to reorganise and regroup as a team to redress the balance of the game.
