SONNING 3 - 3 GERRARDS CROSS
20th October 2007

And so after a week off the "best looking team" in the "best looking club" in the area set out to continue their good run of form and consolidate their position near the top of the table.

The 4's took a trip to Gerrards Cross where we were met with the usual warm welcome (and of course the familiar face of the same ringer that plays for ALL their other teams) but apart from that we were ready for a good friendly game of hockey.

An opposition pushback started off the game. The pace of the game was quickly established, with the oppo having the slight advantage. Despite being on the back foot, a valiant defence held the score goalless. However after a period of more level play we were unfortunately caught on the break and conceded a goal.

Having gone one nil down Sonning were fired into action and responded well, levelling the score through a splendid (I was going to say lucky but he umpired a Uni match for me on Wed so I had better be nice) goal by Grant.

The next goal was scored by the oppo however if the umpire wasn't counting the wad of cash he had obviously just received then he would have noticed the thump that Si-Cass received to the head and would have stopped play. Again Sonning had a response as Mike Bailey stepped up to accept the challenge and level the score.

As the remainder of the game unfolded, Sonning once again faced defeat. Another Gerrards Cross goal gave them the lead for the third time in the game. However attention then turned to Wadie as with time running out he managed to find the back of the net.

All in all, three good recoveries from a team showing true Sonning spirit!

The goal scorers this week were: Grant Studley, Mike Bailey and Wadie.
Man of the Match: goes to Dodge this week for being less dodgy than usual
Dick of the Day: goes to Mat for his correct but overtly passionate half time talk with the umpires
