SONNING 5 - 3 EASTCOTE
6th October 2007

2nd league game

After last week's glorious comeback and near victory there were mixed feelings about how we were going to fair this week with a weakened team. Our opposition, Eastcote, have two teams in our league and their 6th XI, which we played on Saturday, finished last season in mid table at 7th place of 12.

Our dramatic start to the day consisted of Fordy pushing for a warm up, Mat furiously phoning his entire phone book (not many friends you see) trying to drum up an extra player, and our aged skipper looking bemused at all the questions, demands and advice being fired in his direction. Playing to our strengths wasn't an option given the number of missing faces so we changed our formation this week in order to accommodate 4 forward and 2 midfield. And after a quick discussion as to how this would work and numerous diagrams on the back of a fag packet, we set off on our adventure.

After the first five minutes all was looking well and we seemed to have the game sussed. With the new formation working well Sonning were shocked to find themselves 1 - nil down. Quickly we equalized and then went 2 - 1 up. Both Sonning goals coming from Mike Bailey. In the final spell of play before the second half both teams managed to score again, with ours resulting from a Matt Price short corner.

Half Time 3 : 2

The second half started similarly to the first half minus the Eastcote goalie (which is always good.) Sonning managed to put the pressure on resulting in many concerned voices amongst the oppo. Sensing this, Sonning managed to squeeze another two goals - Mat converting a penalty flick and Mike scoring the first Hat-Trick of the Season.

The goal scorers this week were: Mike Bailey x 3, Matt Price x 2.
Man of the Match was a close call this week but after a second vote off, it goes to Jordon at the expense of Mike "HatTrick" Bailey.
Dick of the Day either goes to Dave Dungan for a "no show", or our skip for messing up the arrangements - one to ponder!
