On the field, the 2006/07 season was a huge success for Sonning Hockey Club Mens Section with the the 1st XI reaching the play-off for promotion to the Southern Premier League, and a number of players being selected for the County Side in the process.
The 2nd and 3rd XIs pushed hard for promotion in their MBBO League divisions with both narrowly missing out this time. The 4th and 5th XIs were outstanding in achieving automatic promotion from their respective leagues and 2006/07 also saw Sonning enter a 6th XI into the league for the first time.
After the successes of 2006/07 this year's Captains have a tough job raising the bar, but it's a challenge they will certainly relish - and I wish them well for the season.2006/07 was a busy year off the field too for the whole club with a hotly contested Presidents Day to start the season, the annual Sonning Quiz to get the brain cells working, a Karaoke Night to rival X Factor, Xmas & End of Season Formals - and of course all rounded off by one of the biggest summer hockey festivals in Europe, contested by over 30 teams.
Yet again Sonning proved it is one of the most sociable clubs in Berkshire.
