Match Report
Sonning 3s versus OMT 2s
Result: Sonning 0 – 2 OMT
3:00 pm Saturday 3rd December 2011
Sonning came into this game ready for a tough challenge against the undefeated Old Merchant Taylor's. From the off OMT were playing a quick passing game spreading the ball around. Sonning however were comfortable in defence and still able to pass and move the ball around. Superb work from the full backs Mike Powell and Tomo (Patrick Thomas) made searching runs and overlaps down the wings giving Sonning the moves to take the game to OMT. Sonning got a few shots at goal in the first half and a couple of short corners. It was OMT however who were still holding more possession and putting Sonning under pressure. Jules (Julian Sewell) and Yiendy (Oly Yiend) were getting stuck in and kept the OMT chances to a minimum from open play. Disaster stuck 10 minutes in though, not by an OMT goal but by a defelection off a stick the ball has thundered into Jules's forehead. Medikit! A patched up Jules and he's off to hospital (Later we will find out he has 13 stitches, but he is back and on the beer for the Christmas party! ) OMT did get a number of short corners and eventually went 1-0 ahead from a short about the 20 minute mark. Sonning did not give up and wern't going to let OMT rack up a tally. After the break and it was much of the same, Sonning getting there closest chance with a ball trickling along an open goal line but Toon (Chris Roberts) and Gaz (Gareth Lappin) are unable to get that all important touch. Sonning kept on working hard against a number more short coners but again, OMT slipped another one in to make it 2-0 with 10 minutes to go. A hard fought game and Sonning did well to make it a tough 3 points for OMT. Sonning soon cheered up again with a few sing songs at the Christmas party.
