Welcome to Sonning Hockey Club Men’s Section.

The Men’s Hockey Section runs 6 Adult sides which have teams represented from MBBO Regional Div 1 Level, to entry level League MBBO Div 10 West. So, if you are an elite competitive player, a competent enthusiast, or a complete novice, we can accommodate your ability.

Regular Training is provided for all abilities. GB Olympian John Shaw is our lead Coach, supported by experienced and qualified assistants. As a Club our aim is to provide a challenging, rewarding environment for all to learn and develop, and to nurture talented and committed players. Improvement in standards across the Club has been reflected in league performances and team promotions in recent years.

Matches are always followed by ‘the best teas in the league’ and a social beer in our welcoming Bar. Indeed, Berkshire Umpires Association created the Peter Chestney Award to acknowledge the most welcoming Club in the County, and Sonning are extremely proud to have been awarded this every season since its inception.

But being at Sonning is about much more than traditional Winter League Hockey. The Men’s Section also competes in Summer Leagues and friendlies, and has a strong tradition of Touring, especially abroad. We also have extremely strong links with our Ladies Section with whom we operate a busy Mixed Team Calendar, and share the majority of our many informal Club Social Evenings and popular Special Social Events.

Sonning H.C. in Reading was the first club in Berkshire to attain Club First Accreditation, and has a strong Colts section which has been successful in feeding young talent into the Senior Sections of the Club.

1^st X1 or novice, there is a real family atmosphere at Sonning H.C. It’s all so good, we could keep it to ourselves, but we’d rather you joined in!
