SONNING 2 - 1 NEWBURY & THATCHAM

It appeared, from the outset, that it was going to be an evenly matched game. However, once Sonning had warmed up (takes a while for us old 'uns), that changed, and Newbury were put under pressure. Sonning made many chances, but failed to capitalise until Sharon Oldham finally broke the deadlock, taking the ball down the line and hammering it away.

Sonning continued with the pressure and had more chances in front of the Newbury goal - including attempts by Liz Weeks, Anji Higgins, Janet Hepplewhite (hitting the post) and a flick over the keeper from Sharon (going wide) - but at half time the score refused to move from 1-0.

The second half saw Sonning continue to dominate much of the play with Janet hitting the post for the second time. Then finally, in a move which seemed to involve practically the whole team, Sharon finally managed to get Sonning's second goal on the scoresheet.

As the end of the match drew nearer, Newbury began to pile on the pressure, and with Sonning running out of steam, were rewarded with a goal minutes before the whistle, taking the final score to 2-1.
