SONNING 1 - 2 CITY OF OXFORD

Another map reading exercise but most of us arrived before the opposition.

A depleted and injury hit team, but Sue pulls out all the stops to ensure we have a full complement.

The game started slowly with Sonning delivering hard passes, some of which were on target. City of Oxford were young and tentative and it looked as though we had their measure. Several shots at goal were parried well by the City goalie and other shots sailed wide but niether side scored in the first half.

From the whistle City seemed a changed team and exploded into action, and with speed and skill scored a cracking goal only 1min 52 secs into the second half, (Timely was there!), leaving Sonning helpless from the onslaught. Sonning tried to respond and gained several penalty corners but could not get the vital conversion.

Oxford mounted many dangerous attacks but Carol Miles and Ruth Beasley were able to prevent entry to the circle until the City finally got through to score a second goal.

True to their spirit the vets kept battling on and were rewarded with a last minute goal, following a fine pass into the circle from Jane Ireland, which was amazingly back flicked into the net by Sara Edgerton unexpectedly making a forward run.
