SONNING 2 - 4 PHOENIX & RANELAGH
6th October 2007

On a glorious Indian summer afternoon, Sonning vets enjoyed a hard fought match on home ground. As usual the vets could give many, many years to the opposition, which was to be their final undoing.

Phoenix scored within 10 minutes and, like last week, Sonning were down but not out. Making good use of a well positioned left wing where Karen Vive was playing an unaccustomed role, Sonning worked hard to equalise with a goal from the left tapped home by only-just-restored-to-fitness Liz Weeks.

Phoenix added another before half time, but fully rested from the break Sonning again fought back to make it 2-2 with Liz scoring her second from a short corner.

Phoenix were ably directed by their captain, with a mixture of young and more experienced players. This combination proved too much for Sonning and in spite of some good saves and attacking clearances from Sue Hicks in goal, the fitness of the Phoenix team eventually proved too much for the tiring 500 years of the Sonning team and Phoenix went to score two more goals.
