SONNING 2 - 1 AYLESBURY
3rd November 2007

The Vets were slow to find the pace of the game and allowed Aylesbury to dominate the first 20 minutes. Wave after wave of attack hit the Sonning defence and it was only a matter of time before Aylesbury capitalised and scored.

But the goal proved to be the stimulus for the Vets to get moving and start playing the sort of hockey that merited their position of third in the league!

The equaliser came from a free hit just on the edge of the D, taken quickly by Liz Weeks, finding Anji Higgins near the left post, who, with a first time strike, fired the ball past the keeper.

Developing into a more evenly matched game than we could have hoped from our opening performance, both teams had a series of short corners, but Sonning looked more dangerous in this situation and eventually Sharon Oldham scored from the set piece to put Sonning into a 2-1 lead.

And so the final score remained at 2-1 - enough to put Sonning up to 2nd place in the league.
