SONNING 2 - 0 MILTON KEYNES
20th October 2007
With regular keeper Jo Whennell turning up half an hour before the game looking as white as a ghost and unable to play, the team thought it was not going to be a good afternoon. However, utility player Briony Croft, demonstrated just how versatile she is by stepping in as keeper having previously played this position for a season some years ago.
Much of the first 20 minutes was played in the Milton Keynes half but the opposition defence supported by their midfield, didn’t allow our attacking line many chances to take a shot on goal. Five minutes before half time an unfortunate injury to an MK defender led to a forced substitution. This led to a short unsettled period for the MK defence which was capitalised on by Sonning. First Emma Dalton wobbled her way through a crowded 25 to finally dummy the keeper to make the Sonning 1-0 up. Literally moments later, and just before the half-time whistle, Hannah Foster was on the end of a cross into the D and slipped the ball into the corner of the goal.
The MK defence re-grouped at half time and on several occasions nearly broke through the Sonning ranks, with player of the match Sue Page needing all her wily skills to dribble the ball out of defence following a short corner. Despite continued possession and attacks on the MK goal, the final score remained Sonning 2 Milton Keynes 0.
