SONNING 1 - 2 BANBURY
27th October 2007

Sonning were just one point ahead of Banbury in the league table when we went into the game, so we knew it was going to be a close match.

The game started very evenly, with both sides showing good possessional skills. Lucy saved a certain goal on the goal line with some excellent covering defending. Banbury however looked stronger on the attack and there were a few misses before they got their first goal from open play. The first half ended 1 - 0 to Banbury.

Sonning started the second half well and kept the pressure on until the equaliser came from a brilliantly executed short corner: the ball was slipped right to Sue P. who cannoned it into the top left hand corner. 1-1.

Sonning kept their aggressive play in the second half and created some good chances on goal including two great attempts with the ball inches away from the line. Then Banbury were awarded a short corner. The ball was struck well but took a vicious deflection off a defenders stick, which unfortunately fell nicely for the opposition to push it over the line. Banbury had again taken the lead with their only real chance of the second half.

Sonning worked really hard to equalise but unfortunately we ran out of time.

It was a good, hard fought game and the result could really have gone either way but in the end, it was a 2-1 win for Banbury.
