SONNING 4 - 1 NEWBURY & THATCHAM

It was a very cold morning, pitch half frozen but with the sun out we went ahead with the game anyway. The pitch was distinctly faster down one end and Sonning went straight into the attack. Following a smooth run from Yasmin down the left, crossing to Brozza who had two shots and on the third, calmly slipped it past the keeper. 1 - 0 to Sonning.

We kept the pressure on and were looking likely to score again. Then Vicki picked up the ball just outside the 25, skilfully dribbled around a few players and took a nice early shot from the top of the D. 2 - 0 to Sonning.

Against the run of play, Newbury and Thatcham got a break, which eventually fell to an unmarked player in the D, who took the shot and scored. 2- 1 at the half time break.

The second half started with a more determined Sonning who were keen to build on their lead, and our captain wanting us to improve our goal difference in the league. Yasmin kicked us off again, intercepting a free hit and running in to slot it past the keeper. A great solo goal.

Following the third goal, numerous chances fell to the Sonning forwards and with a few near misses in front of goal, we were awarded a short corner. Caroline then neatly scored from the resulting short corner routine. The final score was 4- 1 to Sonning and a pleasing result.
