SONNING 6 - 1 ROVER OXFORD

Sonning ladies headed into this weekend's game with an impressive win the week before, confidence showing through as they got off to a strong start.

Within minutes, Sonning scored through Bryony Olliff-Lee after a free hit from Claire Gallimore was deflected past the keeper into the goal. For the rest of the first half, the home side continued to put the pressure on Rover Oxford from all sides, creating many chances for goal. Sonning were able to put a further 3 goals away before half time; after a couple of missed attempts, a brilliant solo effort from Gallimore resulted in a goal being put past the outstretched foot of the keeper. Bryony Olliff-Lee scored her second goal of the game, and Katie Patterson also added her name to the score sheet after some excellent teamwork created a chance right in front of goal.

Rover Oxford came out with more determination in the second half, and began to put pressure on Sonning. Rover's greatest missed opportunity came from a strong strike at the edge of the D, just going wide of the goal. The opposition persisted, and were able to break Sonning's clean sheet with a shot from close range at a penalty corner. Sonning were quick to recover, and responded with a goal from Patterson, again resulting from an impressive display of teamwork and effort from everybody on the pitch. Sonning played to their formation and style of play with ease, moving the ball around quickly and convincingly throughout the pitch. Rounding off a well played and satisfying performance, Patterson scored the final goal with a strike from the edge of the D, beating the keeper at the near post.

The game ended with a 6-1 victory to Sonning, a well deserved win which takes Sonning up one position in the league table to 3rd place.
