Sonning Ladies 4s Vs Wallingford 3s

Soooo we finally play a game originally scheduled for 14th January….this time snow did not get in our way….

At this point SL4s have waved a tearful ‘goodbye’ to promotion…and are focusing on finishing 3rd in the league….a win at Wallingford would secure this.

SL4s have somewhat of a mismatched team this week….with injuries & unavailability a plenty, SL4s beg, borrowed and stole players just to field a team…10/10 for determination…surely we deserved a win based on that alone.

SL4s always like excitement…and as usual this started in the changing room…with the tough decision of who was to be goal keeper seeing as Adams was not available. Enter McDonald….what a treasure…McDonald slips the age 15 keeper kit on & steps up…taking one for the team.

So we begin….Wallingford attack, McDonald takes a leaf from Paula Abdul’s hit ‘Opposites Attract’ and takes 2 steps forward, 2 steps back….and blow me down opposites do attract, the Wallingford ball went straight into the Sonning goal…Nooooooo, SL4s 0-1

Tensions rise, Bennett argues with the umpire, the air is turning a faint shade of blue over Hithercroft and SL4s are desperately trying to get back in the groove…..

Half time talk…….!!!!!

SL4s focused….Wallingford evidently more so, within 2minutes SL4s 0-2, then from a sneaky post hanger on a short corner, SL4s down 0-3.

Matthews fuming, Swanborough uttering choice words to herself and McDonald muffling words of wisdom through her 15yr old helmet SL4s had to turn it in….enter a Cowap/Grassick combo….1,2,1,2, on the right, Matthews to facilitate a little cross into the ‘D’ with Swanborough at full stretch to sweep the ball into the goal…kindly helped by Watson. SL4s 1-3.

So we decided it was about time we had a long corner….that we did…passed to the top of the ‘D’ where Matthews was stood, Swanborough screaming for the ball, and Matthews professionally ignoring the call from the captain and hammering the ball into the back of the net…well ignored!! SL4s 2-3

Trying to hold on to 3rd place….c’mon girls

‘Angel Delight’

Sonning Ladies 4s Vs Phoenix & Ranelagh

Sonning Ladies stayed home to play Phoenix & Ranelagh on the graveyard shift. Sonning were ready at focused to win….so they thought!!!

P&R came out fighting….applying the pressure & making SL4s think a little. SL4s made a number of breaks….and it was shortly after the game had started that they converted their first goal…1-0 (Matthews).

P&R stepped it up…they soon started to attack….SL4s reacted too late, giving away a short corner & then ran out almost in reverse as we tried to protect our goal. Goal scored 1-1

Half time talk…….WHAT A DELIGHT ANGEL DELIGHT!!!

SL4s were encouraged to use the width a lot more…& that we did…the 2nd half saw the ball passed from right to left, left to right…confusing P&R you’d think…think again…confused ourselves…P&R 2-1….5minutes later P&R 3-1….!!!

In true SL4s fashion we were NOT going leaving this match losers having led 1-0….captain Swanborough soon instructed her army to ‘have a word’ and we stuck our heels in (so to speak!)

Matthews with another strike – SL4s 2-3…and soon another from Rogers…3-3

Should have been a winner…..not this time though!!

‘Push & Pull’

Sonning Ladies 4s Vs Wycombe 5s

We rock up to Wycombe to watch the 2nd half of the Sonning Mens 1st team game….thinking we could watch, learn, admire and…..replicate!!!

Well we watched, we learnt, we admired and we did replicate…(in away kit anyway!!)

Wycombe were up for it…Sonning were…not!! Wycombe came flying in like a Concord back in action….they were skipping through our defence, having demolished our midfield!!

Wycombe soon scored 2 goals & put SL4s in a miserable mood…..Wycombe win 2-0 enough said!
